Former governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha said none of his predecessors has carried out any project since he left office in 2019.
He made this claim when he was briefing journalists today at the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ FCT Chapter at its Utako office, Abuja to mark his 59th Birthday Celebration.
Owelle Okorocha who is a serving Senator said what his predecessor did was to renovate the projects he did. “Even the project the projects President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned recently in Imo State were the projects I built and renovated by the present government.”
The man who is known for his philanthropism revealed that he does not believe in commissioning projects despite carrying out 1000 projects as a governor. His words, “I cannot build a borehole or culvert and be commissioning it.”
On national issue, Senator Okorocha disclosed that the reason why people are agitated is because the government is far from the people due to communication breakdown. “Our youths are far from our elders that are supposed to guide them. We need to engage these youths and educate them. If we don’t act fast, we might have ourselves to blame,” he added.
He further revealed that poverty has ravaged the country right from the time of Tafawa Balewa hence it is not just starting. He claimed that the major problem is that people leading are not sincere and that is because they enter into politics for different reasons and that has been the major challenge of this country.
His words, “Aftermath of colonialism, it brought for us non-citizens who are selfish and they are more in number. They don’t care what happens, they are more interested in drawing back the country. The second set of people are the “tribes men”. They don’t see anything good in other tribes, they are partial. They are always talking about tribes and marginalization.
“The last sets of people are 5% of the country’s population. They are patriotic citizens who want things to work. We have to put national spirit above every other things. That spirit must be generous and selfless, until this spirit is in us, we cannot have headway even if we call a national conference,” he concluded.
