LEARN A SKILL
Some people will not see anything reasonable in this until they start experiencing somethings in life. Nowadays, people go to school to acquire certificate just to work and not interested in the knowledge hence as soon as they graduate, they hit the ground running, seeking for white collar jobs.
This is one of the reasons why so many people are not finding joy in what they are doing today because they are interested in the salary and allowances when they are supposed to be doing well with the skill they acquired in life.
The way things are going now, many people will soon start losing their jobs as they are ageing because of technology. For instance, in the past, especially in Nigeria, some people employ marketer, computer operator and driver separately but today one person is employed to do the three works (three persons’ jobs) and paid just one person’s salary.
Only a young person can do such job hence a man in his late forties or fifties might lose his job to a young graduate of 25 years. Today, people don’t value experience any more, rather, they are more interested in conserving resources. A man with skill will definitely not have challenge taking care of his family when sacked, so before you say I do or after that, or while in marriage, you can as well acquire a skill, it is very important.
I remember a young man who had a barbing salon before gaining admission into the university. As an undergraduate, he continued with the skill and was never in needs all through his stay in the campus, he read accountancy in the university and when he finished, he went in search of job.
He went from pillar to post, all to no avail, before he knew what was happening, he started living in penury, begging people to make a living while looking for a job in accountancy. It was when he was denied money that he remembered that he used to give help to those who are denying him and quickly went back to his barbing salon business.
As at the last time I heard from him, he had three barbing salons with people working for him. Of course, he is married and doing well, he has no issue with taking care of his family because he is making use of the skill he acquired instead of over-reliance on the certificate acquired in the university.
It is not necessary that you work with your certificate, going to higher institution is to brush you up in life and probably prepare you for the race ahead in life especially if you are planning to go into politics in future. For instance, an educated tailor will automatically become a fashion designer because he has mixed education with tailoring and what he will be churning out will be far better than that of an ordinary tailor.
Having a skill does not necessarily mean you must work with it, you can as well set up a business in that area. And you know, a business you don’t have any knowledge of, the people helping you will help you run it down or cheat you, so before you put your money into any venture, you must have a little knowledge of it. Any skill you acquire will be okay even if it is how to cook or fry beans cake.
I know of a woman then in Lagos who sells satchet water popularly known as ice water. The money she realized from the sales was enough for her to build a house for herself and family. So many working under air-conditioned offices cannot even afford to put blocks on top of themselves let alone build a house. So acquiring a skill and using it will go a long way to help build a successful family. My friend’s wife read Economics as a course but she is into outdoor catering and she is doing greatly. Don’t afford not to have a skill so that you don’t regret in life.
What you must consider before you choose a partner
This is where many people make mistakes in life, they consider things that are not too necessary in place of important things. Most people consider wealth and beauty first. Once you have those two things, they are good to go especially the ladies. They prefer to have those two things and suffer in marriage than struggle with a man that is just starting life.
Some people have lost their lives in the process because they got beaten up by the man until the point of death while some ended up being used for rituals because they don’t know the source of the man or woman’s wealth. These sets of ladies fail to understand that not all that glitters is gold. Everything is not all about money.
