Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Obinna Ogba has recommended the interim coach of the Super Eagles for the job of the senior national team.
He made the recommendation after watching the Nigeria Premier Football League match between Niger Tornadoes of Minna and Shooting Stars of Ibadan which was played at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja yesterday.
The Ebonyi-Senator disclosed that the Super Eagles don’t have a playing style or pattern for over five years and for the first time in a long time, they are playing good football.
His words, “I can only say I am happy. In Cameroun, I was happy and here, I am happy. I can say we now have a team that we can stand up and clap for. And at the same time, I congratulate the Nigerian football federation, NFF for appointing Austin Eguavoen to hold brief and for sending away the German foreign coach who for over five years had not gotten any pattern for our team.”

Senator Ogba however believes that the Edo tactician has what it takes to lift the African Cup of Nations, AFCON trophy in Cameroun while he clamour for him to be given time to build the team.
He said, “I want to say, by the special grace of God, Eguavoen is going to lift the cup and I am advising the NFF to give him time to allow him build the team for sometimes. Let them not be in a hurry in bringing in another foreign coach.”
On the appointment of a new foreign coach for the Super Eagles, Sen. Ogba said he is not aware that another foreign coach is being engaged. His words, “Well I don’t know about that, I don’t know if there is any agreement with any foreign coach. I am not aware and by virtue of the office I occupy, I should know, it shouldn’t be a secret thing, so, I am not aware. They said a bird at hand is better than the ones in the bush. Let us make use of the one we have. But if they have money to engage a foreign coach and he can do better than what we are seeing, why not.”
