German international, Kai Havertz seems to be the man for the big occasions from what he has done so far since arriving the Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s home ground.
He does it seemingly well especially when the team’s striker, Romelu Lukaku is absent from the team.
When Havertz arrived the London club from Bayer Leverkusen, many thought he was going to struggle considering the league he was coming from, Bundesliga. Initially, he struggled alongside his national teammate, Timo Werner but later raised his game.
In his first game against Brighton & Hove Albion, which ended by 3-1 away win for Chelsea, Havertz managed to impress but got a hattrick in his second match in a FA Cup match against Barnsley.
He raised his game when it mattered most during the UEFA Champions League. His performance from the knock out stage earned him a place in the final where he played as a striker.
Havertz did not disappoint as he grabbed the only goal that gave Chelsea their second Champions League trophy against Manchester City.
As if that was a fluke, the German international went to the FIFA Club World Cup and also scored in the match against Palmeiras of Brazil to help Chelsea win their first trophy at that stage by 2-1.
Although, Lukaku scored for Chelsea in the 55 minutes, Havertz scored a late penalty in the second half of extra-time of the match to win the match for his club.
Before then, Havertz was one of the scorers against Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup that took Chelsea to the final. And just yesterday, he was one of the scorers again in the match against Lille OSC of France in the first leg of the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League which Chelsea won by 2-0.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will engage Liverpool in the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday at the Wembley stadium.
The question on the lips of everybody is, will Havertz live up to expectation and prove once again that he is the man for the big match and not a fluke? Only time will tell.
