Nigeria/Ghana W/C Qualifiers: We will guarantee adequate security during the match – CP Babaji

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sunday Babaji has assured Nigerians especially residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT of adequate security before, during and after the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers between the Super Eagles of Nigeria against the Black Stars of Ghana on Tuesday.

He gave this assurance in an exclusive interview with our correspondent over the weekend while receiving the Chief Operating Officer, COO of the National League One, NLO, Mr. Sola Ogunnowo in his office at the FCT Police Command, Abuja.

The Commissioner said they have put things in place to ensure that fans and even the visitors coming to watch the match are secure adequately.

He noted, “We have finalized preparation for the match. We are also collaborating with our sister security outfits to ensure that Abuja is protected so that everybody including our visitors come and return safely. We are also going to secure them in their hotels.

“We don’t expect any security problem on that day because we know Nigerians are very mature. We are not expecting the fans to take laws into their hands in form of retaliation because of how our players and officials will be treated,” CP Babaji assured.

Meanwhile, during the visit, the Police Commissioner who hails from Balaga community, presented jerseys, balls and other kits to Balaga United of Gombe, a clubside that was revived by him.

On sustaining the clubside, he said he has been discussing with some indigenes from Balaga who are doing well in their various fields of endeavor, to see how they can pull resources together to keep the club afloat.

It would be recalled that Balaga United went down and got revived by the Commissioner of Police who secured a second division ticket of the NLO for them before handling over jerseys and other sporting kits.
