Ihezuo Emmanuel put the Citizens ahead from the spot in the fifth minute after Bala Peters was uncompromisingly brought down in the box.
It was City FC’s first point outside the shores of Abuja. Also, this is the first time the Citizens are drawing a match in the Nigeria National League. They have won eight and loss three in previous games.
The Citizens started brightly, and, on a strong note with two attempts at goal coming in, in the first two minutes of the enterprising fixture.
City FC and NNL Top Scorer, Ihezuo Emmanuel struck the upright after receiving a well-weighted pass from the midfield. Moments later, Bala Peter was brought down right in the 18-yard box to give the Citizens a ray of believe in the fifth minute.
Ihezuo, who has never lost a penalty this season, rose up to the billing once again and buried the ball at the base of the net.
The game began to heat up as time was ticking fast. The home team, ABSIlorinFC mustered all their tactical acumen to ensure parity is restored – before the break – but the Citizens held a firm grip on the lead as the halftime sounded.
Play however resumed – for the second half – after a little delay. With the City FC players knowing they are just forty-five minutes away from recording a vital win, they gave everything humanly available to keep ABS at arms length.
However, as time wore on, fatigue began to set in for the Citizens. Concentration start to fade, allowing the home side to gain more freedom in the middle of the park. Pressure kept mounting up until the seventh eight minute when ABS Ilorin FC captain, Ibrahim Mohammed pulled something off the top shelve to salvage a point for the Saraki Boys. A wonder goal that was executed with finesse, he curled beautifully into the top corner form the edge of the box.
It was a hard-fought point for both teams, though one is satisfied and the other is not. But what spectators experienced at the Ilorin Township stadium was nothing short of pure football showdown that has supporters following the actions minute by minute, from start to finish.
The Citizens will now return to Abuja to prepare extensively to host El-Kanemi Warriors next week in yet another cracker.
