Have you ever wondered why some people feel bad when the weekend is over because they don’t like Mondays, the first working day and love Friday, the beginning of weekend? Well, it is because they are not fulfilled in what they are doing to earn a living.
There are so many factors responsible for such. It is not because the person is lazy or irresponsible. However, below are the factors that are responsible and that make people to be unserious with their jobs:
1. Wrong choice
Some people are not fulfilled because they chose a wrong job. They find themselves in the job because they want to be doing something rather than sit at home doing nothing. For instance, somebody that read Physical Education in the media or banking sector might not be satisfied but has no choice because it is paying his bills. Some found themselves in wrong job because it is lucrative and at the end they find it difficult to meet up with the standard required. E.g. Many believe that pastoral job is lucrative especially those that ‘called themselves’ hence they set up religious houses only to find themselves struggling and unable to meet up.
2. Parents’ Choice
This is common with parents nowadays. Parents prefer to choice the type of course to read for their children hence they find themselves in the field they don’t like. Typical example is the trio of Fela, Charly Boy and Faze, incidentally, their parents are legal luminary who want their children to follow their footsteps but unfortunately, all of them chose the same professions – Music. We reliably gathered that when one of the parents insisted on reading Law, the child went to school, acquired the certificate and gave it to the parent claiming that, “Daddy, you want me to read Law, this is your certificate.” And went into Music fully.
3. Availability
This is very common in Nigeria, many people find themselves in different fields today because of what is available at that very point in time. They don’t want to be seen as being lazy hence they took up any available job as long as that job can take care of their needs. We have seen many who read a particular course e.g. A person that read Accounting, but after moving from one establishment to another without any vacancy, he settled for barbing, the skill that paid his bills before going to school.
4. Love for the money not the job
This is the main reason why some people don’t seem to be satisfied in their chosen field. Some people want to work in a place because of the love for the fat salary package not because they love the job. Some don’t even mind the hazard involved in the job. This is one of the reasons why some people don’t learn anything (acquire knowledge) where they are working, they are always expectant and anxious for the day salary will be paid. For instance, in the media sector, when you join as a reporter, you are expected to learn the rope and know how to edit and do production so that when you leave, you should be able to be on your own as a publisher or producer.
5. Mates’ choice
Some people found themselves in a particular field because of what their friends will say. They don’t want to be looked down on by their mates but be respected as doing well hence they abandoned what would have been very lucrative and settle for some so-called respectable jobs. They do that because of where their friends are working hence they want to live up to standard. For instance, somebody that is into laundry/cleaning business might want to abandon it and look for a paid job in a big establishment because his mate is working in Central Bank or NNPC. Don’t be surprise, what he earns in his laundry business in a week might be more than what his friend working in office earn in a month but because he doesn’t want to be seen as a let-down, he wants to also impress his mates especially whenever they are gathering for a party or event. Such people do everything humanly possible to get job in top organizations and at the end found themselves under serious pressure, uncomfortable and unable to meet up in that job and might eventually get sacked hence losing his business and his new-found job.
6. Uncomfortable environment
Some people are not fulfilled not because of the factors above but because of the stress they pass through while in office. Some bosses are very good at frustrating their juniors in office for many reasons – sex appeals, tribe/ethnic, religion, gender, just to mention a few. Some bosses are naturally wicked and self-centered; they don’t want anybody around them. They want to do everything by themselves probably because of the money attached to such jobs hence they frustrate those working for or with them. That can make such subordinates or junior staff to lose interest in such job and might always be praying for weekend to come and might not want another Monday to come. Such people are always looking out for holidays.
The above and many more are just some of the reasons why some people are not fulfilled in their chosen fields. It is better for you to be happy than found yourself in an environment that is not suitable for you to operate.
