FCT minister charges newly-inaugurated council chairmen on good governance

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Bello has charged the newly-inaugurated chairmen of Area Councils to focus on good governance in order to meet the yearnings and aspirations of those who voted them.
He stated this on Tuesday while inaugurating the newly elected six Area Council chairmen and their deputies at the Arts and Culture Centre, Garki, Abuja.
The minister however urged them to play to the rules of Oath of Office and defend the Nigerian Constitution. According to him, “The time of electioneering is over. Now it is time to face and focus on good governance, to ensure that the electorates enjoy more dividends of democracy in the territory.
Bello continued, “You should accord priority to primary health care services. I also urge you to give attention to sanitation, primary education and other basic social amenities.”
Also speaking, the Secretary for the FCT Area Council Services Secretariat, Mr. Abubakar Dantsoho reminded them to line up their programmes in order to avoid abandonment of projects.
His words, “You were elected to perform and you are going to be judged by your performance. You can see about three of you were re-elected. If you had not perform well, I am sure you will not be reelected by the electorates. So, it is a very big challenge, it is not a time for jamboree. It is a time for governance and I urge you to do your best.”
Dantsoho however warned, “At the FCT Area Council Services Secretariat, we are very much in-charge of the area councils and we will be going after them, inspecting their programmes and whoever did not perform, the law will take its course.”
The Area Councils Chairmen and the Councillors were later sworn-in by the Chief Judge of the FCT, Justice Hussaini Yusuf, who was represented by Justice Suleiman Belgore, who administered the Oath of Office.
The area councils that were inaugurated were AMAC, Bwari, Kuje, Gwagwalada, Abaji and Kwali and they are mainly from the ruling and opposition parties, APC and PDP respectively. They were elected on February 12, 2022.
